We're facing an early years crisis and we must act now. Last week Gordon Brown, the United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education, called for world leaders to #ActForEarlyYears and urgently invest at least $1 billion in children’s critical #EarlyYears. His plea came at an #ActForEarlyYears event co-hosted between Theirworld, Sesame Workshop and the Early Childhood Development Action Network (ECDAN) held during the #SpringMeetings in Washington, DC. The message is clear: the future of our next generation is at stake, and they cannot afford to wait. If you agree, add your name to our petition now: https://ow.ly/lJPJ50Rnhli

😁 The Good News: funding for preschool from the donor community has increased significantly since we first started tracking the data with Pauline Rose and Asma Zubairi at Research for Equitable Access and Learning (REAL) Centre. 😥 The Bad New: The amount is so tiny (1.4%) of education aid -- in comparison to the internationally agreed target of 10%. 🌥 The silver lining: If the international community accelerates pace towards the target, we could unlock an additional $2 billion for preschool around the world! 💪 Let's get busy prioritizing the youngest children!
Global aid for pre-primary education has increased by 40% between 2021 and 2022, reaching $282 million, the highest recorded. This rise is primarily driven by the World Bank. Funding is still far below the international target of 10% of education budgets. Disproportionate allocation of funds, lack of strategic investment, and focus on middle-income countries leave millions of vulnerable children without access to quality early education. To bridge the gap, it is crucial for donors and governments to prioritize funding for pre-primary education to ensure that all children have access to quality early childhood development. ➡️ Learn more in the #WorldEducationBlog by Justin van Fleet, President of Theirworld and CEO of the Global Business Coalition for Education: https://bit.ly/3Qfc2FM

Gordon Brown, the United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education, called for world leaders to urgently invest at least $1 billion in children’s #EarlyYears. His plea came as new data published by Theirworld and University of Cambridge's Research for Equitable Access and Learning (REAL) Centre shows UNICEF and The World Bank are leading the drive to transform investment in pre-school aged children. Brown’s comments came at an #ActForEarlyYears event co-hosted with Sesame Workshop and the Early Childhood Development Action Network (ECDAN) held during the #SpringMeetings in Washington, DC. The event was also attended by UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell; Luis Benveniste, Global Director of Education at The World Bank; UNESCO Assistant Director-General Stefania Giannini and Renato Godinho Special Advisor for Brazil's Ministry for Social Development and Co-Chair of the G20 Brasil 2024 Task Force for a Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty.
