Dear Mariela,

I have some exciting news to share with you.

World leaders at the Transforming Education Summit in New York have made a decision that will unlock billions in funding for children’s education around the world.

They have launched the International Finance Facility for Education (IFFEd) to transform the education of children in the world’s poorest countries.

The new multi-billion dollar fund will inject desperately needed investment into schools around the world, at a time when national and donor budgets are stretched.

While an initial $2 billion was committed to global education, the fund has the potential to unlock $10 billion to educate tomorrow’s generation of young people.

This is a momentous occasion.

We still have work to do, but this is a real moment of hope for the world’s poorest children. Please help us spread the good news by sharing this post:

Young people in partnership with @Theirworld demanded action on the #GlobalEducationCrisis and world leaders have listened. #IFFEd will unlock billions for children globally and help deliver a world where every child has a place in school. #LetMeLearn

Young people demanded action through the #LetMeLearn campaign and leaders responded.

Over social media, on billboards and in the room with the UN Secretary-General himself, they demanded urgent funding to tackle the global education crisis.

We have been waiting for this moment for a long time.

It is the culmination of six years of campaigning, which back in 2018 saw us deliver a petition signed by 1.5 million people to the UN Secretary-General. Today we have hope. Hope that we can finally foresee a world in which every child - no matter who they are or where they are born - has the chance to go to school.

To everyone who joined the campaign, shared a post on social media, or simply spread the word: thank you.

Because of you, the outlook for children locked out of school, or suffering from poor quality education, is much brighter today.

Best wishes,

Justin van Fleet
