On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine and threw the lives of millions of children into turmoil. Their schools and homes were bombed, their normality turned upside down.
Refugee children have been welcomed with open arms in other countries. They have settled into schools, made friends and are learning the languages of their host nations.
But parents fear their children could begin to forget how to speak Ukrainian and lose touch with their homeland and their culture.
Theirworld and our initiative the Global Business Coalition for Education are supporting the education of refugee children through a project called Stay With Ukraine. It uses online lessons to allow them to continue their Ukrainian studies and talk to teachers and students still in Ukraine.
GBC-Education is also helping to deliver education to Ukrainian children through Digital Equity for Ukraine - a $30 million project with HP Inc. and Microsoft that is distributing tens of thousands of laptops to schools, teachers and other people in Ukraine and neighbouring countries.
To mark the anniversary of the war, Theirworld also commissioned a report which looks at how Ukrainian children and youth responded to the disruption to their lives and education.
